Our commitment to safety

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. Our approach is built on openness and collaboration, empowering every team member to actively contribute to a safer workplace.

What makes Interstate AC different?

We focus on the facts and on fostering an environment where everyone feels supported in their role to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. In 2023, we reinforced this commitment by adding a dedicated Director of Safety to our leadership team, ensuring that safety is prioritized from the top down. In 2024, we took another step forward by piloting a proactive Safety Committee, composed of cross-functional team members from all levels of the organization. This committee plays a key role in shaping safety practices based on feedback from across the company, ensuring that safety is a shared responsibility.

From comprehensive safety orientations for all new hires to specialized training in fleet and vehicle safety, CPR certifications, and aerial lift operations, our commitment to safety is built into everything we do.

Protecting Against Common Job Site Hazards

Every workplace comes with its own set of inherent risks, and in the commercial and industrial HVAC and plumbing industries, our technicians face safety hazards daily. Here are some of the common industry safety risks and how we address them before things go wrong:

  • Handling Hazardous Materials
  • Rooftop Operations
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Electrical Safety
  • Operating Machinery

Handling Hazardous Materials

Technicians working with refrigerants and other chemicals face potential hazards that can jeopardize their health and safety. To mitigate these risks, our training program emphasizes safe handling practices, ensuring employees are fully equipped to manage hazardous materials. This proactive training reduces exposure risks and promotes a safer work environment.

Rooftop Operations

When working at elevated heights, fall protection is critical. Our training covers the proper use of guardrails, platform ladders, safety nets, and harnesses to keep our team safe. We also provide aerial lift certification, ensuring technicians are proficient in using equipment safely. By adhering to these safety measures, we prioritize the well-being of our team while they work off the ground.

Confined Space Entry

Working in confined spaces presents unique challenges, including the risk of asphyxiation or entrapment. Our training program prepares technicians and plumbers to safely enter and work in these environments by teaching them to identify and eliminate hazards. This includes removing flammable substances and ensuring proper ventilation. By assessing potential risks before entering, our people maintain a secure environment throughout every confined space operation.

Electrical Safety

Our employees often handle electricity when connecting systems to power sources, which introduces electrical hazards. To protect our team, we train employees to follow strict safety procedures, including de-energizing equipment before work begins and using lockout/tagout methods. These precautions ensure power is not restored until the work is complete, safeguarding technicians and maintaining a secure worksite.

Operating Machinery

Heavy machinery presents significant safety risks if not properly managed. Our training ensures that technicians and plumbers are well-versed in safe machine operation and the importance of machine guarding. By reinforcing these practices, we help our employees work confidently and safely around heavy equipment, reducing the risk of injuries and maintaining a secure work environment.
