{"id":209,"date":"2014-10-31T14:06:55","date_gmt":"2014-10-31T19:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/interstateac.com\/?p=209"},"modified":"2019-11-14T09:47:42","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T15:47:42","slug":"results-of-our-smart-thermostat-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/interstateac.com\/building-automation\/results-of-our-smart-thermostat-poll\/","title":{"rendered":"Results of Our Smart Thermostat Poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In August, we began our\u00a0Smart Thermostat Poll\u00a0to get your input on some of the features manufacturers are now offering on their new crop of thermostats.\u00a0 Are manufacturer&#8217;s over-engineering these or are these really features people want?\u00a0 We put it to the test, by asking which features you liked or thought you might use (a &#8220;yes&#8221; answer) and which features you either didn&#8217;t care about or wouldn&#8217;t use (a &#8220;no&#8221; answer).\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a summary of the results*:<\/p>\n<h2>The features most users said they wanted or would use are:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Reminders to change your air filters.<\/li>\n<li>Allowing you to override your &#8220;normal routine&#8221; when on vacation (away mode).<\/li>\n<li>Alerting you when the temperature in your home gets too cold or too hot, which may mean your HVAC unit isn&#8217;t working.<\/li>\n<li>Allow you to run only the fan (to circulate air) without having to run the air conditioner or the heat.<\/li>\n<li>Having the thermostat derive its power from your HVAC (instead of running on batteries).<\/li>\n<li>Automatically adjusting for daylight savings time.<\/li>\n<li>Automatically downloading software updates from the Internet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Features users said they would be least likely to use were:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Having a portable (handheld) thermostat control that can be used in any room of the house.<\/li>\n<li>Having the display in different languages.<\/li>\n<li>Being able to upload a photo that displays on the thermostat&#8217;s screen, with screen saver and slideshow features.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thank you to all who have already taken the poll.\u00a0 If you haven&#8217;t taken the poll yet, there&#8217;s still time (click here)!\u00a0 Plus, just for taking the poll, we&#8217;ll send you a coupon good for 10% off the installation of any thermostat of your choice.
